Arts Participation Predicts Educational Achievement and Social Responsibility

New research by Dr. James Catterall and colleagues shows that arts involvement is associated with greater academic performance, educational attainment, civic participation, and volunteerism.  And a new study by Dr. Kelly LeRoux and colleagues shows that participation in the arts – even as a spectator ‒ is linked to social responsibility as defined by civic engagement, tolerance and altruism.  Both of these studies were conducted using long-term databases gathered by federal agencies in education and sciences, respectively.
