New Year, New Opportunity to Give Back

Looking for a volunteer opportunity in the new year?  We work with several community organizations in Los Angeles county that are always in need of help.

One particular program that is need of immediate assistance is the Creative Minds Project (CMP), which integrates the innate social-emotional benefits of the arts with mental health practices at local community agencies in West LA, Venice, and Santa Monica that serve transitional aged youth, adults, and veterans living homeless.

At this time, CMP is particularly in need of volunteer mental health professionals interested in providing on-site supervision for groups in expressive arts, creative writing/poetry, and/or drumming/music groups. While they have some content for facilitators to use, volunteers are encouraged to design their own content for the groups. Some trainees can start as soon as possible.

The minimum time commitment is once a week for a 1 to 1.5-hour session; however there are opportunities to participate in more groups. To apply, please send your resume/CV and a brief statement of interest to

CMP is currently looking to place trainees at the People Concern Access Center (formally Ocean Park Community Center). The Access Center serves low-income adults and families, women and their children affected by domestic violence, people living homeless, and people with severe physical or mental health issues. The Access Center is open Mondays through Fridays, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and is located at 503 W. Olympic Blvd, Santa Monica, 90401.
