Art Journaling for Joy: Finding Resilience through Creative Expression

Want to experience a new tool for creative expression that promotes emotional self-awareness? In this one-hour workshop, learn how to develop your own introspective art journaling practice for centering and resilience. Through examples of various journal exercises—involving a combination of diverse art materiales with simple color and movement practices—you’ll explore quick and easy strategies for building a positive emotional climate in difficult situations.

This workshop will be followed by a ten-minute Q&A.

Nadia Fernanda Paredes, MA, LMFT, ATR, is a bilingual and bicultural licensed marital and family therapist. She also holds a degree in psychology, a certification as an Intuition Painting® facilitator, and as a trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy provider. She brings over a decade of  experience working in the mental health field, where she has provided bicultural services to pregnant adolescents, Latino immigrants, seniors, and as a consultant for emergency preparedness. Her offerings include the Smart-Heart Method: Art Journaling for Corporate Wellness, the Soul Sister Studio: a Female Centered Wellness Program through Embodied Arts, and Art+Flow workshops for mental health provider's burnout prevention. Most recently, Nadia began a professorship in Universidad Anahuac in Mexico City where she teaches about art as a preventive mental health practice.

  • Sketch book (or whatever you would like to use as an art journal; alternative option: white paper and a binder).

  • Markers

  • Colored pencils

  • Old magazines and/or collage material

  • Glue stick

  • Any other materials you would like to use!

The program will begin promptly at noon PT, and we will open the waiting room ten minutes prior to starting. We encourage you to join at 11:50 am PT, so that you have time to potentially troubleshoot any connectivity issues before the beginning of the program.
